Spoken Word for Christmas

The RHPNA prays you are encouraged this special Christmas season as we remember the birth of our savior.

Jacob Mau works in refugee resettlement in Chicago and is the creator of the refugee-focused podcast Beyond Soundbites. Jacob is also a spoken word artist and this work shared during the Refugee Highway Partnership North America Pacific Northwest refugee roundtable in Portland, Oregon on July 20 2019 is based on an experience he had during an English as a Second Language class Christmas party. As new arrivals to the U.S. attempted to sing Christmas carols in broken English, Jacob couldn't shake the profundity of the situation he found himself in, surrounded by so many who had experienced their own major life displacements. Those who go through such trauma have a special insight into what it must have been like for Joseph and Mary so many centuries ago.
